Design and Analysis of Novel Modular Stator Axial-Flux Permanent Magnet Vernier Machine with Improved Power Factor

Permanent magnet Vernier machines (PMVMs) have drawn increasing attention in recent years due to the advantage of high torque density. However, inherent low power factor issue PMVMs remains a key challenge. In this paper, novel axial-flux permanent vernier machine (AFPMVM) with modular stator is proposed. Benefiting from unique separation slot structure, proposed can obtain not only improved but also higher electromagnetic torque, and explained theoretically by air-gap field modulation theory. A magnetomotive force (MMF)-permeance model established predict harmonics modulated slots. Moreover, quantifying contribution generation, working non-working harmonic components be determined. Meanwhile, relationship between AFPMVM revealed perspective harmonics. Then, significantly lower contents armature reaction field. The analysis results show that achieve 4.1% 6.9% than existing AFPMVM. Finally, influences some design parameters on are analyzed verified finite element analysis.
